Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 8 ounces white button mushrooms, cleaned
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs, like parsley, sage, rosemary or thyme, plus more for garnish
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 (12-ounce) NY strip steak

Instructions

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms and herbs and sauté, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, season steak generously with salt and pepper. Heat remaining 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steak on all sides and cook to desired doneness. For a medium-well steak cook until an internal temperature of 145°F is reached, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Remove steak from pan and let rest for at least 3 minutes. Slice and top with mushrooms. Garnish with additional parsley and serve.

  1. I do this often with a Top Sirlion and use a Vidalia onion with the mushrooms, Delicious, steak cooked to med rare.
I sometimes add a little soy sauce and extra butter to just the mushrooms .
I love to saute mushrooms in butter and soy, for a snack.

    1. The best part of a mushroom and steak hoagie is chilled beer and a sharp melted cheese over everything. Makes for a great Labor Day!!
